Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino
SUMMARY
Framed as a conversation between Mongol emperor Kublai Khan and Marco Polo, the book describes 55 fictitious cities that are narrated by Polo, many of which can be read as didactic commentary on culture, language, time, memory, death, and human experience.
In the city of Chloe, people pass each other every day but never stop to get to know each other. What moral can we learn from Chloe? Fabricating assumptions about others hinders community and dehumanizes individuals.
